Vehicle Tracking
Keeping costs and
road safety under
control for Selwood
Summary
Selwood is a business that has been operating for over 70 years. They are world leaders in pump manufacturing, the leading pump rental solutions company in the UK and a renowned supplier of plant and construction equipment for hire in the Southern regions of the UK. Selwood is an innovative business with a cutting-edge approach to customer service, product development, manufacturing and quality.
Requirements
The initial requirement for Selwood was to provide a vehicle tracking system to assist the transport team at a central level and the depot managers locally to manage their remote fleet of delivery trucks, service vans and company cars, with a key focus on security, efficiency, environmental impact and road safety.
Over the many years we have worked with Selwood, the requirements have evolved, as has the technology, with an additional focus now being on the safety of the drivers and the other road users they encounter. As a FORS Silver member, Selwood is passionate about continually improving all aspects of their transport operations. The Skyline system is a key component in supporting this.
Solution
Initially taking the Skyline ‘Core’ package, Selwood was able to review operations to improve operational efficiency and reduce fuel consumption. Fast-forward to the present and they have a mixture of Skyline solutions deployed on the fleet, each configured specifically for the application.
With Skyline Advanced installed on the company cars, this offers driver analysis reporting and daily feedback, along with privacy switching functionality to allow for easy recording of business and private journeys at the start of each journey. Skyline Ultimate is the chosen solution on their service and delivery vehicles, with KPI dashboard reporting and CAN bus information to provide in-depth data analysis on fuel usage, PTO use and a host of other parameters.
Outcome
Since the deployment of Skyline across the road-going Selwood fleet of vehicles, in the year following the deployment of the added performance reporting function, they experienced a reduction in fuel usage of c11% and a reduction in accidents of c40%, and these metrics have been instrumental in keeping their costs, and road safety in general, under control.
